Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented Avionics Controls Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The candidate selected for this position will be a part of our Avionics Products Team, and will require an engineer specialist with demonstrated control engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary engineering teams to solve challenging technical problems.

The Control Engineer will be responsible for the development of robust, high-performance control system architectures for multiple aerospace applications, including:

  • Solid, liquid, and hybrid rocket motors
  • Reaction Control Systems (RCS) for aerospace vehicles
  • Turbomachinery and electric pump systems for propellant management
  • Thermal management of space vehicles, including cryogenic propellant management
  • Electric power systems for aerospace vehicles

Duties will include the following:

  • Assist in the identification of requirements for control systems
  • Control system architecture and design
  • Modeling and simulation of control systems and the associated aerospace plants
  • Performance and robustness analysis of closed-loop control systems
  • Assist in the implementation of control systems in embedded hardware and software
  • Test and evaluation of control system performance in Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation

Basic Qualifications

MS degree from an ABET accredited school in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 5+ years of experience, OR a PhD degree from an ABET accredited school in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Experience and/or significant coursework related to feedback control systems design and analysis
  • The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with control system modeling and simulation in Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulations
  • Experience with design and implementation of control systems in embedded software or firmware
  • Familiarity with engineering fundamentals of rocket propulsion systems
  • Experience with atmospheric flight modeling and simulation (6DOF)
  • Experience with orbital mechanics and/or spacecraft dynamics modeling and simulation (6DOF)
  • Experience with Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) for missiles and/or launch vehicles

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
