Position Description

Dynetics, an employee-owned company, is seeking a talented, self-motivated Aerospace, Mechanical Modeling, and Simulation Engineer or Scientist to join a multi-discipline engineering team that develops models, simulations and estimations for multiple airborne vehicles in support of the development of Avionics products and telemetry kit development, analysis, and test. The end products are avionics systems that provide time, space, position, guidance, navigation, control and automated flight termination capability. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The candidate will develop simulations and models for complex flight vehicle configurations and flight envelopes including high-dynamic scenarios. The position requires a fundamental understanding of vehicle dynamics and controls, flight mechanics, aerodynamics and propulsion, coupled with a solid base of programming experience. Candidate must have an interest in vehicle flight dynamics, modeling & simulation, analysis, and problem-solving. The work will develop modular aircraft flight dynamics models based on first principles for use in performance analysis, post processing algorithm development and estimation algorithms. These skills will be used in the creation of detailed models and complete end-to-end simulations, to include: strategic/tactical missile systems (foreign & domestic), glide munitions, and manned/unmanned vehicles.

The successful applicant will work closely with a highly technical team of multi-disciplinary engineers to provide accurate and timely analysis of flight vehicle systems' performance and capabilities, and to verify/validate system models.

The work will evolve into hardware in the loop simulation, and flight test support. Work may cover both new and existing air vehicles.

This position may require travel for meetings and test events.


Basic Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of applicable experience or a Master's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of applicable experience or a PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Math or Physics with applicable course and research work. 

  • Candidate must have interest in and basic familiarity with analysis of aircraft systems, to include simulation development and maintenance, hardware-in-the-loop analysis, ground and flight test support
  • Candidate must possess knowledge or have a willingness to learn air vehicle modeling and simulation, systems integration, ground and flight test planning and execution
  • Candidate must have experience with Matlab, Simulink and basic programming concepts
  • Candidate must have experience with six degrees of freedom atmospheric flight modeling and simulation
  • Candidate must have interest in and basic familiarity with Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC)

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are required, as the successful candidate must function effectively in a team environment and interact with program stakeholders.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama area.
