Position Description

In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) contract in the near future, Dynetics Space Systems Division is seeking qualified engineers and analysts to support NASA programs including HLS that will put the first woman and next man on the Moon. We are seeking project engineers, systems engineers, test engineers, electrical/mechanical engineers, stress/structural engineers, and analysts to join a diverse team in support of the development of a Human Lander System that will take us back to the surface of the Moon by 2024.

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Main Engine Pumps Lead to join a diverse, highly skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving space systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, and scientific solutions.

The Main Engine Pumps Lead will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of HLS with primary responsibility to design, analyze, procure, test, and integrate pumps into the lunar lander liquid rocket engines. The selected individual will serve as lead project engineer for a fast-paced task focused on design and development of high pressure pumps for controlling cryogenic propellant feed to the lunar lander engines. The individual will work with the interdisciplinary engine team to integrate the pumps into the engine system and conduct testing to ensure the hardware meets mass, power, flow rates, throttling, and overall performance requirements. Candidate must be familiar with pump conditions that may cause cavitation at a wide range of engine power levels at cryogenic conditions. The individual will interface with project managers, mechanical designers, component engineers, test engineers, safety, and quality within Dynetics.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least five (5) years of pump design and test experience with NASA, DoD, or commercial launch or space vehicle development programs.

Candidate must have experience designing and constructing electric and/or turbopumps for liquid rocket engine applications within budget and schedule constraints.

Candidate must have an understanding of pump performance and thermal, flow rate, and mass requirements.

Candidate must demonstrate understanding of various pump designs for liquid rocket engine applications.

Candidate must be able to write clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports and present results to multi-disciplinary teams and customer stakeholders.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating both verbally and in writing.

Candidate must have demonstrated ability to deliver results in a team environment and independently.

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

 

Other Qualifications

Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preference will be shown to candidates who have experience and/or knowledge of the following:

  • Cryogenic pump designs, issues, and solutions.
  • NASA, DoD, or other aerospace development projects
  • Working as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tool suite.
  • Project planning and scheduling using Microsoft Project.
  • Performing as an individual contributor within a short time period.

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Candidate must possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
