Position Description

Dynetics,a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, has been selected by NASA to participate in the development and demonstration of a Human Landing System (HLS). Dynetics is seeking project engineers, systems engineers, mechanical design engineers, electrical engineers, structural and thermal analysts, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, technicians, and operators to join a diverse team in support of the development of the HLS that will carry the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024.

Dynetics is seeking a talented Assembly & Integration Lead to join a diverse, highly skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving space systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, and scientific solutions.

The Assembly & Integration (AI) Lead will be responsible for leading a group of design engineers, systems engineers, manufacturing engineers, and structural analysts to complete the planning for and execution of the manufacturing sequences and flow of the assembly of the Human Lander System and the design, development, and executive of the production support equipment (PSE), GSE, etc to receive, process, assemble, and integrate the different Lander elements into a full Lander spacecraft. The AI Lead will oversee and integrate all of the product deliverables of the group and ensure that all tasks are progressing per the schedule and are bine accomplished within cost allocations. Examples of functions that the team lead will integrate as part of Assembly & Integration include:

  • Overseeing the mechanical design of the production support equipment (PSE) and GSE required to assemble and integrate the Lander Subsystems into a Human Lander System, including the Bill of Material development and component specification for mechanical assemblies as well as applying engineering design processes, design for manufacturing, & drawing production.
  • Overseeing the layout of the production facility, analyzing and planning workflow, and planning equipment needs and layout, developing tooling concepts required for manufacturing & coordinating with tooling team on design and fabrication, creating work instructions & work orders for production processes/assemblies, overseeing manufacturing activities and providing input during the fabrication and assembly processes, providing technical expertise into the design of the components and assemblies to maximize first-unit quality and minimize cost, specifying, evaluating, and implementing capital equipment for production processes, etc
  • Overseeing the structural engineers that will support the design engineers in the development of the support equipment required to assemble and integrated the Lander. This includes analysis of structural hardware and fully integrated Lander system using analytical methods, finite element models and simulations, and other analysis tools to produce models and perform analyses. This includes hand calculations as well as detailed stress analyses utilizing standard industry software programs.

The individual will interface with department leadership, Integrated Product Team leader and project engineers/managers, mechanical designers, analysts, component engineers, other test engineers, systems engineers, safety, and quality with Dynetics.

Basic Qualifications

The position requires a B.S. or equivalent degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, aerospace, systems, or manufacturing engineering with at least eight (8) years of space hardware-related experience. Twenty (20) years of relevant assembly, integration & manufacturing experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Candidate must have at least eight (8) years direct experience in role as detailed above with an engineering company or system integrator where design, testing, and/or modification of aerospace systems was involved. Experience in the Integration of Spacecraft is preferred.

 

Other Qualifications

The position requires travel, including periods of frequent travel for critical program assembly, integration, and test activities.

The position is based in Huntsville, AL, so candidates must live or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
