Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Senior FPGA Verification Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware products. The individual selected for this position will be a design verification engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. The individual must be a self-starter with experience working with inter-disciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems. The engineer will work closely with embedded systems integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle from concept development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The engineer will be responsible for assisting in deriving verification requirements, developing verification environments and models, and assisting in improvement of verification processes .  Additional skills and interest in FPGA/SoC design, architecture, and troubleshooting is a plus. 

The individual is also expected to actively mentor junior engineers and assist in building and refining test and verification knowledge throughout the department.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Candidate must have 10+ years total experience in FPGA/SoC system design and verification
  • Candidate must have 5+ years experience performing FPGA verification
  • Candidate must have proven experience developing and verifying FPGA/SoC systems for mission critical / safety critical systems
  • Candidate must have experience and be willing to mentor and lead junior engineers
  • Candidate must have proven experience using SystemVerilog and OVM/UVM methodologies
  • Candidate must have proven experience with programming and/or hardware description languages such as: C, C++, VHDL, Verilog, assembly
  • Candidate must have experience with communication protocols such as: UART, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN bus, etc.
  • Candidate must have hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debug/test methods
  • Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.5 or higher GPA

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of software safety standards, such as: DO-178, DO-254, AMCOM-385, NASA-STD 8719
  • Mentor Graphics Questa
  • Developing overall firmware/software architecture for embedded systems, including FPGAs and SoCs
  • Utilizing modern Xilinx FPGA and SoC families and design tools (Xilinx IP Cores, AXI4, AXI-Stream) 
  • RISC microprocessors architectures (ARM Cortex, Microblaze, PowerPC, RISC-V)
  • Memory architectures, types, and caching
  • GNU/Linux and developing kernel drivers
  • Embedded operating systems (Linux, VxWorks, Integrity, FreeRTOS, uC/OS-II) 
  • Electronics and PCBA design
  • Leading design teams including technical leadership, budgeting, and scheduling

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
