Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidary of Leidos, is seeking a talented, self-motivated Aerospace Modeling, Simulation, and Controls Engineer to join a multi-discipline engineering team that develops simulations for UAV embedded systems, sensors, and training applications. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.
The candidate will develop simulations and controls for airborne platforms of various types (unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAV), manned aircraft, munitions, etc).

  • Develop modular sensor dynamics and control models based on first principles for use in performance analysis, operator training, and autopilot design
  • Analyze and establish requirements for actuators and sensors for flight control, motion sensing, and navigation
  • Support UAV design, development, analysis, and test
  • Design and test simulation interface with executive flight software and hardware (HILSIM)

Near-term activities will focus on modeling and simulation of navigation sensors including both GPS and vision based navigation. Over time, the role may grow to include flight test support and systems engineering. Work may cover both new and existing air vehicles. This position may require travel for meetings and test events.

Basic Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field. Degree must be from an ABET accredited school.

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Candidate must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher OR a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Candidate must have or be able to obtain a secret level clearance.
  • Candidate must have interest in and basic familiarity with analysis of aircraft systems, to include simulation development and maintenance, hardware-in-the-loop analysis, ground and flight test support.
  • Candidate must have familiarity with classical control design.
  • Candidate must possess knowledge or have a willingness to learn air vehicle modeling and simulation, systems integration, ground and flight test planning/execution, and systems engineering.
  • Candidate must have experience with Matlab and basic programming concepts.
  • Candidate must have experience with Simulink.
  • Candidate must be flexible and willing to take on new tasks in the UAS field.

Other Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in an Engineering field
  • Some experience with C/C++ programming.
  • Some experience with Kalman Filters for navigation.


Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are required, as the successful candidate must function effectively in a team environment and interact with program stake-holders.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama area.

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
