Position Description

Dynetics Technical Solutions (DTS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dynetics, is seeking a talented Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation Design Lead to join a diverse, highly-skilled team to create unique solutions for complex problems involving research systems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, DTS provides responsive, cost effective intelligence, engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The successful Advanced Sensors and Instrumentation Design Lead will support the Advanced Materials Department in developing advanced sensors and instruments, such as laser spectrometers and mass spectrometers for use in applications spanning the range of laboratory experimentation and human-rated-spaceflight life support systems. The candidate will work with the project managers, researchers, scientists, and engineers from design to implementation and testing of systems that support novel materials research. The candidate will supervise junior scientists and engineers in the design, development, testing, and qualification of scientific instrumentation.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Master’s Degree (PhD preferred) in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Candidate must have at least ten (10) years of direct experience designing and testing advanced sensors or scientific instruments.

Candidate must have experience with first-principals physics-based modeling and analysis of sensor or instrumentation phenomenology; development of algorithms to convert raw signals into measured parameters; and development of optical, electrical, and mechanical design of sensors and/or scientific instruments.

Candidate must have proven experience leading multi-functional teams in taking systems from requirement definition through design and implementation while ensuring project schedules and budgets are achieved.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

  • Laser spectroscopy
  • Mass spectroscopy
  • Design of sensors and instruments to meet accuracy and precision criteria
  • Algorithm development and analysis
  • Programming for real time control of systems
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, optical, and mechanical systems as they relate to performance of scientific instruments
  • Tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Integration and mounting of optical components
  • Generating work instructions and procedures
  • Working as part of multi-company and multi-organizational development teams

Self-motivation with demonstrated ability to supervise other engineers

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Top Secret/SSBI Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final Top Secret Clearance.
