Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented Engineering Lead - Space Electronics to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Product Engineering Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. The individual selected for this position will be an engineering lead with demonstrated experience developing custom electronic systems for space applications extending to the lunar surface. The candidate will be a key technical leader in a fast-paced environment that includes systems in all phases of the product lifecycle from conceptual development and detailed design through manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. The candidate will work with the customer and project manager to help define requirements, architecture, and program plans for high-reliability electronics developed for booster, satellite, and lunar lander applications.. The candidate will be responsible for program technical direction including developing the system architecture, leading key design trade studies, and providing subject matter expertise during the detailed design, integration, and test activities. This position will help ensure the engineering team (of which they are a member) and the customer (with whom they work closely with) are on the same page and able to overcome technical and programmatic challenges that may arise.

Experience experience developing custom radiation hardened electronics for space applications is required. The candidate should demonstrate experience with single event mitigation, total ionizing dose hardening, and electronic thermal management in a space environment. Knowledge of appropriate part selection standards, component screening, radiation assurance testing, prohibited materials and familiarization with space electronic suppliers is required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Candidates must have a minimum 5 years of experience developing radiation hardened electronics for space applications
  • Candidate must have proven experience in hardware design and test from architecture through implementation
  • Candidates must have experience in digital/analog/mixed signal, embedded systems, power electronics, RF, or opto-electronic system design
  • Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Candidates must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment and have experience mentoring & guiding team members
  • Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area

Other Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institution with a 3.5 or higher GPA

Preference shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:

  • Detailed switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design
  • Systems engineering principles and methodologies
  • Multiple high-speed serial communication standards and memory interfaces (e.g. GigE, 10 GigE, Aurora, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, JESD204B, PCIe, SATA)
  • Rigid-flex, microvia, blind via, and buried via printed circuit board design
  • Mentor Graphics electrical engineering development tools
  • Leading technical teams including defining technical direction and estimating cost/schedule

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
