Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a passionate, detailed-oriented problem-solver to serve as Mechanical Engineering Lead to support the continued development of a Thermal Protection System as part of the Nation’s leading Hypersonic Production Program conducted within Dynetics’ Advanced Materials Product Group. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

As an integral member of the TPS Production Team, the successful candidate will serve as a Mechanical Engineering Lead, utilizing sound mechanical engineering and design principles to lead the development of machined, structural, sheet metal & composite component parts. Candidate will be responsible for bill of material development and component specification for mechanical assemblies. Candidate must be able to apply engineering design processes such as design for manufacturing, drawing production, configuration management, and integration and development of complex mechanical systems. This position may perform on multiple programs and will balance multiple activities including, but not limited to:

- Engineering team leadership

- Perform Project management activities

- Lead design of production tooling

- Lead design of components and prototypes

- Lead design of test plans and test assemblies

- Lead utilization of SolidWorks and/or FEA software to create models and drawings of concepts and products

- Organization and maintenance of engineering records (such as System Requirements, BOM, rationale, methods of manufacturing, procedures, work instructions, etc.)

- Review models and drawings for quality and assurance that system requirements are satisfied, designs are manufacturable, and risks are considered and mitigated

- Function as mentor and resource for less experienced engineers

- Demonstrate professionalism and a positive attitude when addressing challenges, whether internal or outward/customer-facing

- Lead safety and operational risk assessment exercises such as HAZOP, What-if, etc.

- Performs other related job duties as required

- Travel as required

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution with 10+ years of applicable experience

- Candidate must have experience with CAD software and 3D modeling

- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5

- Candidate must have demonstrated project management experience and skills

- Candidate must have demonstrated experience in team leadership to include direct reports

- Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret/SSBI Clearance and meet the eligibility to obtain (and be able to maintain) a Final Top Secret Clearance

- Must be able to travel up to 30%

Other Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

- A current Top Secret/SSBI Clearance

- Program Management skills

- Experience with SolidWorks

- Experience in Stress Analysis

- Experience leading a cross-functional team

- Ability to stay focused and succeed in high-stress, dynamic, and fast paced environments

- Strong communication and attention to detail

- Experience working in manufacturing or production environment

Security Requirements

- Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret/SSBI Clearance and meet the eligibility to obtain (and be able to maintain) a Final Top Secret Clearance
