Position Description

Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a talented RF Threat Weapons Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The RF Threat Weapons Engineer will help analyze and characterize both analog and digital radar and other RF systems within threat weapons of interest. Potential technologies include waveguide and microstrip designs. Antenna systems may include both conventional and phased array topologies. This position will also have responsibility for analysis of tracking, guidance, and counter-countermeasure algorithms contained within missile and radar systems. The goal of this analysis will be to describe the threat capabilities and vulnerabilities against the U.S. systems that oppose it. Test fixtures will be developed to verify analysis and further characterize the signal processing chain. Weapon system instrumentation and testing will be supported for data collection purposes. Once analysis is complete, efforts will continue towards developing countermeasures for the threat system in order to ensure its defeat in combat.

Radar/weapons systems analysis includes probability of detection, waveform analysis, probability of intercept, defended area, etc. Algorithm analysis includes detection processes, waveform selection, signal processing, clutter and EA mitigation, beamforming, target identification, etc. RF hardware includes transmitters, exciters, antennas, multi-channel receivers, high-bandwidth receivers, SOTA processors, and RF lab equipment.

The Foreign Weapon Systems branch goals include the characterization, analysis, testing, and ultimate defeat of all types of threat weapons systems including foreign missiles and radars. This group concentrates primarily on electrical, sensor, optical, and firmware aspects of the systems, but will engage any part of the system that advances our goals. This is hands-on work involving actual threat weapon hardware. Our team develops equipment to control and test these threats in a Hardware-in-the-Loop environment. We also specialize in the development of countermeasure concepts and equipment.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of radar receiver/transmitter hardware, radar architecture, radar signal processing, and radar systems integration and testing.
  • Experience analyzing conventional and phased array antenna systems, including requirements analysis and engineering design tradeoffs.
  • Proven knowledge of the radar range equation, including derivation of its various use cases from first principles for CW, pulse-Doppler, and other radar configurations.
  • Familiarity with target tracking algorithms and their application to radar systems.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages, including C/C++, Python, and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, vector signal analyzers, power meters, high-speed oscilloscopes, and calibration of test setups for RF experiments.
